Ambassador’s Corner 

The Corner is a collaborative venture between the College of Charleston’s School of Languages, Cultures, and World Affairs and Charleston Library Society. In the style of Inside the Actors Studio, it features discussions between Ambassador James Melville and today’s most impactful thought-leaders on the global scene.



James Melville is the host of the Corner. He recently retired after a thirty-three year distinguished career in the foreign service, holding positions in Berlin, London, Moscow, Paris, and Washington. Most recently he served as the US Ambassador to Estonia. He is now the LCWA Associate Dean for International and Community Outreach. He is also the President and CEO of the Global Alliance of South Carolina.

Ambassador Bill Kennard served as U.S. Ambassador to the European Union from 2009 to 2013 and was General Counsel and then Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (“FCC”) where he was hailed as “a consumer champion for the digital age.”  In the private sector, Bill was a Managing Director at The Carlyle Group, a global asset management group, and currently serves as chairman of Velocitas Partners LLC.  Ambassador Kennard serves on numerous corporate boards and is a trustee of Yale University and a member of the board of directors of the International African American Museum in Charleston, SC.
