Interpreting Field Trips
Students in the Fundamentals of Interpreting class were able to tour the Charleston Judicial Center, located in Charleston, SC in Early October 2009. This helped the students have an accurate representation of the facilities. Interpreting Special Topics Presentation Series 2009
On Friday, April 17th, the Interpreting Programs hosted the second talk in its Special Topics Presentation Series. Immigration Attorney Marco T. Torres presented a forum on immigration and issues immigrants face in the U.S. The presentation commenced at 5:30 pm and was attended by over 50 people, including College of Charleston students, faculty, and members of the community at large. Journalists from both WCIV and WCSC were also in attendance. Torres provided an overview of immigration and immigration procedures procedures in the U.S. and the visas available to immigrants. With the knowledge of how few work visas are available to foreigners it is easy to see why immigrants may resort to illegally entering the U.S. Immigration reform could eventually change the status of illegal immigrants that are already in this country, a change would not happen overnight but it could provide a way for illegal immigrants to work toward a legal status here.
