Field Experience

Practicing teachers will keep an account of the hours spent in the classroom implementing ideas and techniques that they are learning in their graduate classes. Some hours may also be accumulated by giving a presentation that involves sharing newly acquired knowledge with district colleagues, or at a conference such as SCFLTA. Teachers are expected to request one, preferably two, classroom observations. These may be done by a master teacher, a M.Ed. colleague, or a professor involved in the M.Ed. program.

Non-practicing teachers will need to gain field experience in other ways. These can include observing or assisting in the classroom of a C of C professor, a M.Ed. classmate, doing private tutoring, or attending a professional conference. Non-practicing ESOL teachers may take the PRACTICUM course that will fulfill the field experience requirement.
