Graduate Program in Languages and Language Education

The School of Languages, Cultures, and World Affairs and the School of Education, Health, and Human Performance of the College of Charleston jointly offer coursework leading to a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Languages for language teachers, current and future.

Masters of Education student Tiffany Dixon presents her project. The program is intended for advanced students of languages and cultures. The M. Ed in languages has two emphases: Spanish or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL).

The M.Ed. is a part-time program (1-2 courses per semester), open both to degree-seeking and non-degree seeking students. Although it is a degree in Education, the M.Ed does not lead to initial teacher certification in South Carolina. If interested in certification, however, please inquire with the Program Director.

While the majority of students are in-service teachers or people returning to teaching, certain courses in the program may be attractive to non-degree seeking students who desire  to improve skills and knowledge in the language area of choice. Because most students in the program are working professionals, classes are offered in the late afternoon, evening, summer, and hybrid/online.
