The Department of French and Francophone Studies at the College of Charleston is launching a membership organization to connect friends of French in the greater Charleston area with French students, faculty, and alumni at the College. Les Amis will be a vibrant community, bringing French natives and Francophiles into regular contact with the cultural, literary, social, and educational world of the Department of French and Francophone Studies.

Members of Les Amis will, through their financial contribution, support students of French by helping to underwrite programs such as our popular study abroad, as well as facilitate students’ participation in academic and cultural conferences and workshops. More importantly, your personal connections with students through our planned social and cultural events will enable you to experience first-hand the talent and enthusiasm of our French majors and minors. In exchange, our students will in various ways greatly benefit from their interactions with you, the local French and Francophile community. Les Amis will also enjoy a close relationship with French faculty at the College through ongoing events to include lunches, receptions, a lecture series, a French book club, and meetings with visiting guests. The French faculty will work closely with Les Amis to explore new opportunities that will be of benefit to the organization and our students. We envisage trips with interested Les Amis members to selected cities in France including sites of our study abroad programs.

We invite you to join us in this new endeavor. Please take a look at the brochure to find out more about Les Amis and to choose your level of participation.
Please do not hesitate to call or email Dr. Godwin O. Uwah if you have any questions.
