About the Festival
The College of Charleston French Film Festival was created in 1998 to introduce
contemporary French cinema to College of Charleston students. Housed since 1999
in the beautiful historic Sottile Theater, in the heart of downtown Charleston, South
Carolina, it attracts today, beyond its traditional student and faculty audience, a
large number of Charlestonians, as well as out of town cinema buffs.
Since it started almost ten years ago, the festival aims at reaching beyond
strictly French cinema. The festival selections include movies from all over the
Francophone world, as well as full-length features co-produced with other European
countries. At least one African director is part of the program each year. In 2001, the
French Film Festival expanded its outreach to the community by participating in the
first South Carolina Independent Film Festival held in the framework of Piccolo
Spoleto.
Corporate as well as private sponsorship is available for the 2008 festival. All of
the tax deductible funds collected go to development and production costs
surrounding the French Film Festival. Sponsors are recognized on the festival's Web
site, at each performance and in the festival's brochure. Interested sponsors should
write to:
