The School of Languages, Cultures, and World Affairs is pleased to announce the following recipients of the Faculty Research Grants. Please refer back to this site for further announcements of grant awardees.
- Emily Beck, Hispanic Studies: Research requiring travel. ($750).
- Viviane Bekrou, French, Francophone, and Italian Studies: Research requiring travel, stipend in lieu of teaching a summer course.
- Raul Carillo-Arciniega, Hispanic Studies: To help with the production costs of publishing a book. ($2750)
- Lola Colomina, Hispanic Studies: Purchasing materials for research which will also be used in classes. ($500).
- Jess Miner, Classics: Stipend for research in lieu of summer teaching.
- Jim Newhard, Classics: Research requiring travel. ($2000)
- Sarah Owens, Hispanic Studies: Research requiring travel ($2700).
- Joshua Shanes, Jewish Studies: Stipend for research in lieu of summer teaching.
- Lisa Signori, French, Francophone, and Italian Studies: Research requiring travel.
- Parissa Tadrissi, Hispanic Studies: Taking a class in Spain which will inspire new teaching techniques for Spanish literature. ($1870).
- John Walsh, French, Francophone, and Italian Studies: Research requiring travel, stipend in lieu of summer teaching.
- Mary Beth Heston, Director, Asian Studies: Research requiring travel. ($1000).
Spring 09 Faculty Research & Development Grant Awards
- Gladys Matthews, Bilingual Legal Interpreting: For telephone interviews with other institutions to research the teaching of interpreting and the undergraduate level ($500).
- Jess Miner, Classics: For collaboration with a co-author on a translation of Aristophanes’ Ekklesiazousai for a book that includes the translation, notes, and scholarly essays on the play ($1500).
- Frank Morris, Classics: To conduct field research on the teaching of Latin in Elementary schools, with interviews, observation of classes, and surveys. The results of this research will be submitted to a journal for publication ($1500).
- Jim Newhard, Classics: To pay for a student majoring in computer science to create a program and data base of data collected in the field in previous research ($1500).
- Jack Parson, Political Science: For completion of a book during a year-long sabbatical leave ($1500).
