What We Can and Can't Do
There are several services that we are capable of performing in the lab, but there is a fine line between legal and illegal. Because we are operating in an educational institution, much of what would be off limits to us is available under "fair use" regulations as long as it is used as an educational/not-for-profit tool. Essentially, that means that the CD or DVD does not leave the College community. Listed here are the services that we know are legal for us to perform:
- Create or duplicate language audio CDs for classroom instruction;
- Create or duplicate DVD movies from College lectures, talks, or performances;
- Make CD or DVD backups of documents, media memory cards and sticks, or other mass storage devices;
- Create CD and DVD labels, CD jewel case inserts and backs.
The services we are legally obligated not to perform are:
- Breaking copyprotected CDs and DVDs;
- Duplicating CDs or DVDs for an audience other than the College;
- "Avoiding" the copyright laws.
Recent CD/DVD Work
This is
the first edition CD cover for Talkin' About Talk, a radio series produced at the College as
a celebration of the Year of Languages in 2005. The series consisted of a four CD set and has
been spread around the US with the help of NPR.
This is the second edition CD cover for Talkin' About Talk. It has been redesigned to celebrate
the release of the book that is based on the radio series and is due to come out sometime in the fall
of 2006.
